Mumbai International Boat Show 2007:
‘You can't cross the sea merely by standing and staring at the water’ – Sri Rabindranath Tagore. |
| A general rise in the economy benefits all participants in the economy. And this could not be more fitting for the recently concluded Mumbai International Boat Show (MIBS), which was an insignia of the thriving Indian economy. Earmarked in history as the first ever commercially successful and International level Boat Show of Mumbai, MIBS signified and explored the untapped potential market in the sea-contoured Mumbai. Attended by the likes of Vijay Mallya, Adi Godrej, Ferragamo and Gautam Singhania and thousands of Mumbaiites, needless to say that MIBS was the cynosure of the city’s hoi-polloi and the junta alike. |
Supported by the Indian Navy, British Marine Federation and The Times of India, MIBS was a ‘sail-away’ success. And we, Hanmer Events, are proud that we gave this city of dreams, a dream fulfilled.
The 4-day extravaganza consisted of a variety of events like: |
A 3-day grand boat exhibition at Bandra Kurla Complex |
The Marina at the Gateway of India (created for the first time ever on Mumbai waters) |
The live Bobby Cash show on the Marina with an audience of over 15000 people |
The Sailboat Regatta |
The closing ceremony - An HNI dinner on the IMS Vikrant |
| The Exhibition at Bandra Kurla Complex |
| From 22 - 25 Feb 2007 the MMRDA ground was transformed into a humungous ship. A sea of 64 exhibitors, including the best International brands like Princess, Sunseeker, Larson, Azimut etc. had set shop to explore the untapped trove of potential buyers. A sizzling fashion show, the inauguration by the Chief of Naval Command, the exclusive preview press conference formed a part of the Aquatic Grandeur. |

The Marina at the Gateway of India (23 – 25 February 2007)
The euphoric city opened its gates to welcome the new tide of time. For the first time ever in Mumbai, a Marina was laid down to help potential buyers get up close and personal with the exhibitor boats.
Singing in-tune with the waves that rocked, Bobby Cash gave a scintillating mid sea performance which left the 15000-strong audience tapping their feet, non-stop. |
The Regatta (Boat Race), Jawahar Gate:
If you thought stars were in the sky, you would need to click on the refresh tab. We saw them in the sea… Really! As the winds filled the sails and blew in a whiff of excitement, the regatta took a different course, tiding with the playful Arabian waves. Truly a treat to watch. Hundreds of Mumbaiites were given an opportunity to witness the spectacle on specially arranged ferries which were taken right into the midst of the action in the sea. |

Grand Finale aboard the IMS Vikrant
The majestic and historic lifejacket of our country, the Indian Museum Ship- Vikrant was an ideal venue for the conclusion of the Mumbai International boat show. Embellished in all it’s glory, the Vikrant saw a host of HNI guests enjoying the elite soiree. Hosted by HSBC and inaugurated by Vice Admiral Byce, the event was a super success as celebrity jazz and stand up artist Ash Chandler ensured that the guests laughed their way into the beautiful evening. The event concluded but the winning spirit didn’t as the organizers envision a 200% growth in MIBS 2008. |
